one move: bound a failure

Compare a reference and current numeric stream with fixed bins, exposing both proportions and the largest distribution gap. In the Lexical Search system, implement this level as a deterministic contract before composing it with the next service.

Required API

def drift_report(reference, current, bins):
    return {'reference': [...], 'current': [...], 'max_gap': ...}

Behavior

place values into fixed bins
normalize each stream independently
report the maximum absolute proportion gap

Constraints

Use only the Python standard library.
Return deterministic values so every run can be compared with the contract.
Do not mutate caller-owned inputs.
